Measure the length of the box springs. Add 3-1 / 2 inches to the length and cut two studs to that length using a saw. Measure the width of the box springs. Add an inch to the width and cut two studs to this length. Place the long studs on a flat surface with short rivets between them, flush the ends. The ducks should stand on their narrow edges. Drill three holes through each of the long studs at the end, penetrating the ends of the short studs. Space them evenly, 3/4 inch from the end of the tab. Use a 5/32-inch drill and screwdriver / driver. These are the pilot holes for the screws.
Place 3-inch screws in all holes and run them tight in the short studs with drill / screwdriver. You should now have a rectangular modern bed frame 1/2 inch longer and 1/2 inch wider than the box springs on the inside. The extra 1/2 inch width and length make the box feathers fit inside with a little space all the way around, and make sure the box springs do not get stuck in the frame. Place a half-inch scrap block in each corner, and center one of the blocks halfway between the ends of the long sides of the frame. You will build the frame upside down, so your feet stick straight up when you screw them. Place one of the 4-by-4 blocks on top of each of the scrap blocks.
Squeeze the feet in a corner with a hand clamp. Place a clamp on each block between the ends. Drill two holes through the rails on both sides of the 4-times-4 cornerstones. Drill two holes through the sides of the studs to penetrate the two center 4-by-4 blocks. Place the screws in all holes. Run the screws in tight, and then remove the clips. Pick up the frame, turn it on and place it on its 4-by-4 meter. Place the box springs in the frame. It will rest on top of the 4-by-4 feet that are recessed down 1-1 / 2 inches. There will be a 1/2-inch lip around the perimeter of the box springs to hold it in place.
Tips and warnings
The measurements are an example. You can build your frame with shorter or taller feet. If your frame is for a smaller bed, you may only need three 96-inch studs. Always wear safety goggles when working with wood.
